Premiere: My Jerusalem – “Born In The Belly” (Ryan Olson Remix)

By Darren Ressler

It’s going to be a busy summer for Austin by way of New Orleans indie rockers My Jerusalem, and they don’t seem to want it any other way. Riding high on their recent album Preachers, the five-piece have been out on the road supporting their follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed debut, Gone For Good.

After supporting goth legend Peter Murphy in April and alt-rock legends Psychedelic Furs in May, the band will be playing the Colours of Ostrava festival in Czech Republic in July along with Sigur Rós, The xx, The Knife, Tomahawk, and they’ve been confirmed to perform at the prestigious Austin City Limits in October.

Today these busy bees are premiering a wickedly dark and lavishly rhythmic remix of “Born In The Belly” crafted by Ryan Olson, whose vast array of musical exploits include founding Midwest collective Gayngs and producing/co-founding Poliça.

“We met Ryan last year while he was working on some Marijuana Deathsquads recordings in Austin,” vocalist Jeff Klein tells us. “It turned out we had a million Minneapolis friends in common and became fast friends. He’s a truly unique artist. I love his work with Gayngs, Poliça, and MDS so when it came time for remixes, he was a natural choice.”

With a busy few months ahead, Klein says their hometown gig at ACL certainly holds a special place for the band. “We are really excited to be part of this year’s ACL Festival lineup,” he says. “We love our hometown of Austin and feel its an honor to represent at what’s become one of the best music festival experiences in the world.”

Without further ado, have a listen to this phenomenal remix, and be sure to catch the band during their upcoming travels around the world.
