Metric Gets Visual at SCOPE for Art Basel

By Jim Allen

Rockers have been presenting themselves as artistes at least since the ’60s, some with more justification than others, but when Metric headlines SCOPE Miami Pavilion during Art Basel, the Canadian band will truly put pop and fine art together under one roof. The group already has a history of syncing seamlessly with the event — after all, they played in town during Art Basel week back in 2010, but when Metric tops the bill at the official opening party for the SCOPE Art fair they’re sure to achieve even more symbiosis with the spirit of the week’s festivities.

When Metric makes its way to the SCOPE stage on December 6 for a show sponsored by VH1’s You Oughta Know they’ll be blasting through the best tunes from all across their discography, of course, but there’ll be another, more Art Basel-centric element to the evening as well. Metric, along with the other acts on the bill at the opening party, will have the most cutting-edge set design of any band in recent memory — they’ll be playing alongside artwork by a trio of artists chosen specifically for the scenario: Brent Birnbaum, Hugh Hayden, and Patrick Martinez. So fans will have to make sure to keep their eyes and ears at an equal level of alertness.
